GRRL Movement !

Gone Home

I wasn’t able to play the game myself so I decided to watch a few YouTube videos. Before I watched the video I honestly thought it would be a creepy game it wasn’t though. Katie had arrived back at her parents house on June 7th,1995.When she got there no one was there to open the door but there was a note from her sister. Her sister had ran away and her parents were MIA so she had to go search for clues and find out why and how everything happened . I did like watching the game I feel like I would probably have to download it soon .

” Riot Grrrl Manifesto “

This movement started in the early 1990’s by Washington State band Bikini Kill and Lead singer Kathleen Hanna. I supported everything addressed in this . “BECAUSE we are angry at a society that tells us Girl = Dumb, Girl = Bad, Girl = Weak. ” (Kathleen Hanna, ” Riot Grrrl Manifesto”)This is definitely something that happens on a daily and its so disturbing to think people really underestimate. People think women aren’t built to do it all and that’s where their wrong. ” “BECAUSE we don’t wanna assimilate to someone else’s (boy) standards of what is or isn’t.” (Kathleen Hanna, ” Riot Grrrl Manifesto”) I agree 100%! Earlier today I saw a post about that dealing with some famous people this man was saying how he couldn’t be with a woman that don’t act like a woman . I’ll never understand why they think it’s them that has to have complete control. ” People are so uncomfortable when empowered fem ” ( Femme Power Make-Up Tutorial by Ariana Rodriquez https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u3Qvooc91eQ) , I definitely agree and think that goes in hand with this .

Some video games I enjoy playing would be Sims 4 pc version , Warzone and Mortal Kombat. A few things I do to bring me joy would be play my game , make Tik Tok’s or go enjoy some fresh air.

Research Essay

I had to really think on it but the two things I thought about writing about were the fact that men feel comfortable telling a woman what she should and shouldn’t wear , the second one is the weight differences female go through and what they have to deal with once any one else realizes. I believe it has a lot to due with gender studies its something females deal with on a daily and its been like that.

Exploring Black Feminism

The Combahee River Collective Statement

This story talks about a collective of Black Feminists that have been meeting since 1974.They talked more about four things which were the genesis of contemporary black feminism, what’s believed i.e, the specific province of our politics, the problems in organizing Black Feminists, including history of our collective and the issues they had plus practice. ” Above all else, Our politics initially sprang from the shared belief that Black women are inherently valuable, that our liberation is a necessity not as an adjunct to somebody else’s may because of our need as human persons for autonomy.” (In The Combahee River Collective Statement ) This quote definitely goes with the topic of this reading .

So You Want to Talk About Race by Ijeoma Oluo

The book was about why its so tough for people to be able to talk about race and why it needs to be talked about. Oluo talked a lot about how Black Women are treated , looked at and how her life goes daily . A lot of things said were things every black girl has to go through. She tried to ignore it but it always seemed to come back around in her life. ” the realities if race haven’t always been welcome in my life but they have always been there.”(1:23).

Age, Race, Class, and Sex: Women Redefining

This story talks about how much of Western European history conditions us to see human differences in simplistic opposition to each other. They discussed how it wasn’t just race that was a problem things such as age and etc.. ” We find ourselves having to repeat and relearn the same old
lessons over and over that our mothers did because we do not pass on what we have learned, or because we are unable to listen. For instance, how many times has this all been said before? For another, who would have believed that once again our daughters are allowing their bodies to be hampered and purgatoried by girdles and high heels and hobble skirts?”(pg:117) This is definitely something I agree with and have heard recently as well. Opposed groups are often left to teach their opposers.” The literatures of all women of Color recreate the textures of
our lives, and many white women are heavily invested in ignoring the real differences.”

Connections

The connections the text’s of the week were that they all talked about the differences Black Women had to go through. Oluo’s topic was race but later went more into life as a black women. The Combahee River Collective statement talked about the specific provinces if our politics and the issues of black feminist. Lorde and Oluo really tied in for the same topic to me. They all were on the same page when it came to Black Feminism.

Nina Simone – Four Women (1966)

“Four women ” by Nina Simone connects to all text we read for the week. Nina talked about the color of her skin , her name and how her father pushed up on her mother. She described the difference when it came to the women one was called ” Sweet Thang” and another was” Peaches”.

Gender Rules

Keywords: Domination, Feminist, Society

In ” Theorizing difference from multicultural feminism ” they stated that multiracial feminism is an evolving body of theory and practice informed by wide-ranging intellectual traditions. Multiracial feminism is also known to examine the simultaneity of forming female identity and experiences . One thing I found interesting that I read was ” Another disturbing pattern, which bell hooks refers to as “the commodification of difference,” is the representation of diversity as a form of exotica, “a spice , seasoning that livens up the dull dish that is mainstream white culture.”(pg 323). I had never heard that before. They even explained more on the diversity trend.

” The Kaleidoscope of Gender ” explained how the Western’s culture was when it came to gender .”The shape and texture of people ‘s lives are affected in profound ways by the prism of gender
as it operates in their social worlds. Something that I found interesting was “Many of us never question what we have learned about sex and gender , so we go through life assuming that gender is a relatively simple matter. A person who wears lipstick , high-heeled shoes, and a skirt is a feminine female , while a person who plays rugby ,belches in public , and walks with a swagger is a masculine male (Lorber , 1994; Ridgeway & Correll, 2004) .”(Page:3) I agree 100% with this we always seem to go with things we were taught as a kid and those things aren’t always going to go along with society as the years go on. There was a two gender/sexuality system referred to as ” pink and blue syndrome “.(Page:4) Which is also interesting because now they use more neutral colors like you could have green for a boy instead of blue and use yellow for the girl.

” Androgynous “

This song is about men and woman reversing their roles . It was ok to be who you are. In the song they said ” Closer than you know love each other so .” I feel like that’s saying even with no approval or support it’ll still be the same. I remember when my grandma use to make me and my cousin come in the house because we didn’t need to run around in the grass and play with the boys we should’ve been playing dolls .

Connections :

Both of these stories were based on the roles and feminism importance and history. I feel like Valentine and The Replacements would agree based off of them both wanting things normalized when it came to role switching.
